Parts of Eukaryotic cells Flashcards
Selective barrier that separates internal metabolic events from the external environment with special receptors to responds to external stimuli
Cell/Plasma membrane
Region between the nucleus and plasma membrane; contains a semifluid substance called cytosol
Cytoplasm
Control center of the cell containing genetic material
Nucleus
Acts as transporters of polar molecules or charged ions
Glycoproteins
Nuclear envelope
separates content from cytoplasm
Nucleoplasm
inner mass of the nucleus containing chromatin
Nucleolus
reassembly points for ribosomes
Contains proteins and RNA
Nucleoli
Contains ribosomes and produces secretory proteins
Rough endoplasmic reticulum (ER)
Site for lipid production, detoxification of organic molecules and storage of calcium ions in muscle cells
Smooth ER
Made of actin; provides mechanical support for cellular structures and important for cytokinesis
Microfilaments
Made of tubulin; functions in movement of organelles and in chromosome movement during division of the cell nucleus
Microtubules
Resist cell stretching and helps hold adjacent cells together
Intermediate filament
Parts of the endomembrane system
Endoplasmic reticulum
Golgi Apparatus
Lysosomes
