Nonverbal Cognition
Is the student’s cognitive functioning appear to be at or near his/her age level? What is their learning rate?
ex- refer to professional
Comprehension Assessment
understand curriculum vocabulary? follow oral and written directions? understand age appropriate complex sentences.
ex- CELF, textbook vocab probes, center embedded relative clauses, short story and they tell main facts.
Expressive Language
good syntax and morphology? have expected vocab for age? good social communication?
ex- OWLS, eliciting statements, language samples
Phonology/Articulation
age appropraite sounds? developmentally appropriate phonological awareness?
ex- Hodson, phonetic inventory, story retells, language samples,
Oral-Motor
Motor speech impairment? muscle weakness? sound sequencing deficit? experience dysphagia?
ex. Kaufman, developmental history, feeding/swallowing assessment
Voice
Voice consistent with age and sex? Any obvious resonance or phonatory changes?
ex. perceptual analysis, parent interview
Fluency
verbal fluency compromised secondary to speech and language impairments?
ex. SSI, perceptual analysis, parent interview
Social Functioning
does communication delay affect interactions with peers, techers, etc?
ex- Vineland, classroom observation, role playing
Hearing
change in hearing acuity?
hearing screening, medical record, parents interview
