Parts of a Neuron Flashcards
- Dendrites
-structure vs function (2)
-numerous, large surface area to receive incoming signals from other neurons, conducts impulses to cell body
- Cell body
-recieves what from dendrite and does what with it
-recieves the iumpulse from dendrite and sends it to axon like a bridge
- Axon
-where does it send the nerve impulses
-other neurons or effectors
Myelin Sheath
-what is it
a thick insulating material that makes up the schwann cell
Schwan Cell
-what is it
a type of gilial cell that wraps around the axon
Nodes of Ranvier
-what is it
spaces between the Schwann cells
Neurilemma
-what nervous system contains it
-what does it surround and its function
-PNS
-wrapped around the axon and regenerates damaged axon
- Axon Terminal
-where is it
-what do they store, what is synapse
-end of axon
-neurutransmittors which are chemicals that will be released to carry the message across the SYNAPSE (space between) to a dendrite of another neuron or effector
