PARTS OF A CELL Flashcards
What do animal and plant cells have in common?
Cytoplasm Ribosomes Nucleus Cell membrane Mitochondria
What do plant cells have that an animal cell does not?
Cell wall
Vacuole
Chloroplasts
What do animal cells have that plant cells do not?
Nothing
What is the function of the cell membrane?
Controls the passage of substances in and out of the cell.
What is the function of the cell wall?
Strengthens the cell, keeps it rigid.
What is the function of cytoplasm?
Where metabolic reactions controlled by enzymes take place.
What is the function of the vacuole?
Filled with cell sap.
What is the function of mitochondria?
Where energy is released in respiration.
What is the function of ribosomes?
Where protein synthesis takes place.
What is the function of the chloroplast?
Contains chlorophyll which adsorbs light energy to make food.
Nucleus
Contains chromosomes made up of genes.
