Parts Of A Cell Flashcards
Cell membrane
The cell membrane controls which substances go into and out of a cell
Cell Wall
It’s a rigid layer that surrounds the cells of plants and some other organisms
Nucleus
A large oval structure called the nucleus acts as a cell’s control center, directing all of the cell’s activities.
Organelles
A tiny cell structure that carries out a specific function within the cell.
Nuclear Envelope
The nuclear envelope surrounds the nucleus acting as a “wall”
Nucleolus
The Nucleolus is inside the Nucleus and it produces ribosomes.
Ribosomes
A small grain-shaped organelle in the cytoplasm of a cell that produces proteins.
Cytoplasm
Cytoplasm functions to carry or support the organelles.
Mitochondria
Mitochondria convert energy stored in food to energy the cell can use to live and function.
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
It is an organelle that forms a maze of passageways in which proteins and other materials are carried from one part of a cell to another.
Golgi Apparatus
An organelle in a cell that receives proteins and other newly formed materials from the endoplasmic reticulum, packages them, and distributes them to other parts of the cell
Vacuole
A sac-like organelle that stores water, food and other materials.
Chloroplast
An organelle in the cells of plants and some other organisms that captures energy from sunlight and changes it to an energy form that cells can use in making food.
