Organelle
A tiny structure inside cells that performs a certain job
Nucleus
A central structure inside plant or animal cells that contain DNA; it is known as the control center of the cell
Cell Membrane
The thin outside covering surrounding a cell
Cell Wall
A thick covering outside the cell membranes of plant cells
Cytoplasm
The fluid-like material that fills a cell and surrounds the nucleus and organelles
Ribosome
A cell organelle involved in making proteins
Lysosome
Breaks down nutrients and old cell parts; found in animal cells and rarely in plant cells
Vacuole
A cell organelle that stores substances such as food or waste
Golgi Apparatus
An organelle that packages proteins for use inside or outside the cell
Chloroplast
A organelle found in plant cells that captures the light energy and uses it to make food (sugars)
Mitochondria
A power house of cells; an organelle that provides with the energy they need.
Endoplasmic Reticulum
An organelle that changes and packages proteins.
