A bridge that can be moved in order to stop or allow people to cross it
Drawbridge
A ditch around the castle with no water in it.
Dry Moat
A moat is a ring of water around a castle or town to keep intruders out.

Narrow vertical slits in a castle which knights shot arrows out of.

A strong building built over the entrance to a city or castle.
Castle Gatehouse
A small structure (such as a turret) jutting out of a building and providing defense or lookout.
Bartizan
A barrier at the top of a wall, usually of a fort or castle, that has regularly spaced squared openings for knights to shoot through.

Tall, thick curtain walls surrounded the castle buildings like a strong shield.
Curtain Wall
Is typically a fence or defensive wall made from iron or wooden stakes, or tree trunks, and used as a defensive structure or cage.
Palisade Wall
Openings in the ceiling just in front of a gate or in the passage beyond. It was believed that that the defenders would drop hot liquids on the unfortunate attacker through these openings.
Murder Hole
A spiked wooden or metal barricade that helped protect the doors from fire and battering.
