Particles & Waves Flashcards
The Standard Model
The standard model explains how the basic building blocks of matter intersect governed by 4 fundemental forces
Fundamental Particles
a fundamental particle cannot be broken down into any sub particles
Hadrons
A Hadron is a particle made from quarks
Baryons
A Baryon are particles made of 3 quarks
Mesons
A Meson is made up of 2 quarks, always consist of a anti quark and a quark
Bosons
Bosons are force carrying particles
Electric Field Strength
Electric Field Strength is the electrical force acting on 1 coulomb of charge at a point in the field
Fission
Fission is when a nucleus of a large mass splits into 2 or more smaller mass nuclei
Fusion
Fusion is when 2 small mass nuclei combine to make a larger mass nucleus
Photoelectric Effect
The Photoelectric Effect occurs when electromagnetic radiation is directed at a metal surface and ejects electrons from the metal
Threshold Frequency
Threshold Frequency is the minimum light required to eject an electron from a metal surface
Work Function
Work Function is the minimum energy required to eject an electron from a metal surface
