Dynamics & Space Flashcards
Vectors
Vectors require both magnitude and direction, scalars require only a magnitude
Speed
Speed is the rate of change of distance
Velocity
Velocity is the rate of change of displacement
Acceleration
Acceleration is rate of change of velocity
One Newton
One Newton is the force required to make a 1kg mass move at 1ms
Gravitational Field Strength
Gravitational Field Strength is the force due to gravity per unit mass
Resultant Number of Forces
The Resultant Number of Forces is the vector sum of all the forces
Conservation of Energy
The Conservation of Energy is energy cannot be created or destroyed only converted from one to another
Conservation of Momentum
The Conservation of Momentum is the total momentum before a collision is equal to the total momentum after a collision in the absences of external forces
Impulse
Impulse is the change in momentum of an object
Time Dilation
Time Dilation is the difference in a time interval as measured by an object moving relative to a stationary observer
Length Contraction
Length Contraction is the difference in length of an object moving relative to a stationary observer
Redshift of Light
light from stars or galaxies moving away from us is shifted to longer wavelengths and so the redder wavelength of the spectrum
The Big Bang
The universe was initially in a hot and very dense state then expanded rapidly
