Particles (Unit 1) Flashcards
What happens when a particle and antiparticle come together?
-they annihilate
Leptons?
electrons and electron-neutrinos
Hadrons?
particles consisting of quarks or antiquarks bound together
Baryon
a hadron consisting of 3 quarks or 3 antiquarks.
Baryon
a hadron consisting of 3 quarks or 3 antiquarks.
Meson
a hadron consisting of a quark-antiquark pair.
What is exclusive to weak reactions?
neutrino involvement and quark flavour changes
Strong forces?
- experienced by : all quarks, so all hadrons
-range : short
EM force?
- experienced :all charged particles
range : infinite
(also experienced by neutral hadrons, as these are composed of quarks)
weak
-experienced : all
-range: infinite
gravitational
-All matter
-infinite
-very weak – negligible except between large objects such as planets (ignore for particles)
Charge Number? (for element)
-number of protons (bottom number)
Baryon number? (for element)
number next to name of atom (baryon 14)
