Kinematics (Unit 1) Flashcards
Mean acceleration?
V-U/t
Mean Velocity?
Total Displacement/ total time
Mean Speed?
Total distance/ total time
Displacement?
[Vector] distance between two locations measured along the shortest
path joining them.
Velocity? (meaning)
Rate of change of displacement.
Acceleration (meaning)
Rate of change of velocity.
Gradient of a displacement time graph?
Velocity
Gradient of a velocity time graph?
Acceleration
Area under a velocity time graph?
-Displacement
-How does terminal velocity work?
-As the body falls, it accelerates
-As the velocity of the body increases, the size of the air resistance force also -increases
-Eventually, the air resistance force becomes so large that it is equal to the weight of the body.
-When this happens, the two forces are balanced and the body continues to fall at a constant velocity.
-This constant velocity is called the terminal velocity of the falling body
Instantaneous speed
rate of change of distance
Instantaneous velocity
the rate of change of displacement.
Instantaneous acceleration
rate of change of velocity
