Particle Flashcards
How are particles arranged in a solid?
Very close together, in regular layers, particles vibrate on the spot
How are particles arranged in a liquid?
close together, in a random arrangement, they can move over each other
How are particles arranged in a gas?
very far apart from each other, moving in all directions
What are the properties of a solid?
usually dense, not easily compressed, have a definite shape and volume, cannot flow
What are the properties of a liquid?
fairly dense, not easily compressed, can take the shape of their container, have a fixed volume, can flow
What are the properties of a gas?
low density, easily compressed, don’t have a definite shape or volume, can flow easily
What is melting?
Changing from a solid to a liquid
What is boiling?
Changing from a liquid to a gas
What is freezing?
Changing from a liquid to a solid
What is condensing?
Changing from a gas to a liquid
