Digestion and diffusion Flashcards
What is diffusion?
The movement of substances from a high concentration to a low concentration
What substances move into a cell by diffusion?
Oxygen and glucose
What substances move out of cells by diffusion?
carbon dioxide and wastes
What is digestion?
Breaking large, insoluble molecules into small, soluble molecules
What are enzymes?
They speed up reactions
Which enzymes breaks down starch?
amylase
Where is food absorbed in the body?
The small intestine
Where is oxygen taken in in the body?
The lungs
What happens to the rate of diffusion when the temperature increases?
The rate of diffusion increases (gets faster)
What happens to the rate of diffusion when the temperature decreases?
The rate of diffusion decreases (gets slower)
What happens to the rate of diffusion when the concentration difference increases?
The rate of diffusion increases
