What are the indications for a PVC posterior?
A
- Lost moderate amounts of tooth structure
- If buccal wall is intact and well supported
- Retainers for an FPD
- Where restoration of the occlusal surface is needed

A
- Retainers to reestablish anterior guidance
- Splint teeth
- Rarely suited for restoring damaged teeth

A
- Short clinical crowns
- Long span FPD’s
- Rarely for endodontically treated teeth
- Active caries
- Untreated perio disease

A
- Conservation of tooth structure
- Reduced pulpal insult
- Reduced periodontal insult
- Access for oral hygiene
- Less gingival involvement
- Permits electrical vitality testing

- Less retention
- Less resistance
- Difficult to prep
Some metal is displayed (cosmetics compromised)
