Title IX
No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.
The Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
The statute addresses how states and schools, and other public agencies, provide services to children with disabilities. The purpose of IDEA is to make available to all children with disabilities a free appropriate public education. Federal funds are made available through various grants to support services for children from birth to 26 years of age.
No Child Left Behind Act
Requires that every classroom have a highly qualified, competent teacher who is fully certified and licensed in the areas being taught in every classroom.
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Schools and teachers must maintain confidentiality of student records, and parents must be able to review and challenge the records for their children.
