- alters glutamate uptake and release
- blocks the binding of serotonin to its receptors
- and/or inhibits glycogen synthase
What are the AE of lithium?
-toxicity
- at therapeutic levels:
- tremor
- polyuria
- renal toxicity
- hypothyroidism (goiter)
- teratogenesis
- use in lactation

- tardive dyskinesia (stop med immediately this can be permanent)
What scale can be used to measure EPS of antipsychotic drugs?
AIMS
abnormal involuntary movement scale
For what second generation atypical antipsychotic must you get blood drawn for?
clozapine (clozaril)
What is an AE of the second generation atypical antipsychotic clozapine (clozaril).
-immunosupression: can cause infection
