Requirements for Certificates
To operate a civil aircraft in the U.S. you must have a pilot certificate, photo ID, and medical certificate on you

Offenses Involving Drugs and Alcohol
A conviction for anything involving drugs or alcohol may result in the denial of an application or the suspension/revocation of a certificate

Medical Certificates
61.23 lists the medical certificates you need for certain operations and the duration of each certificate. The requirements for each certificate are listed under Part 67.
1st class medical is required for exercising privileges of an airline transport pilot certificate
2nd class medical is required for exercising privileges of a commercial pilot certificate
3rd class medical is required for exercising privileges of a private, recreational, or student pilot certificate

Flight Review
Basic flight reviews (BFR) or any check ride every 24 calendar months
The proficiency checks at Part 121 or 135 airlines count as BFRs
IPC does not count
A current medical is not required for a flight review because I am receiving training, not acting as PIC
Pilot certificates provide privileges while acting as PIC and current medicals are required in order to act as PIC

Recent Experience
Night TOL must be performed to full stop between 1 hour after sunset to 1 hour before sunrise
Night flight can be logged between the end of evening civil twilight to the beginning of morning civil twilight
Position lights must be ON from sunset to sunrise
Carrying passengers at night without night currency can be done up to 1 hour after sunset and 1 hour before sunrise
Nopersonmay act aspilot in commandof anaircraftcarrying passengers during the period beginning 1 hour after sunset and ending 1 hour before sunrise. The flight has to end before sunset, not land before sunset. You are still acting as PIC while taxiing.

Change of Address
The holder of a pilot certificate must inform the FAA of a change of address within 30 days to exercise their certificate

Privileges and Limitations of a Private Pilot
A PPL allows you act as the PIC of single engine aircraft and carry passengers
You must have a type rating for aircraft over 12,500lbs, you may fly up to 18,000ft MSL (instrument rating is required for Class A airspace), and the maximum airspeed is 250 knots (below 10,000ft MSL)
A private pilot may not act as PIC of an aircraft carrying passengers or property for compensation or hire (p/p for c/h)
You must notify the FAA airmen certification branch of new home address within 30 days after you move

Search and location operations – may be reimbursed for operating expenses
Towing glider or unpowered ultralight vehicle
Demonstrate aircraft to a buyer – you must be an aircraft salesman with 200 logged hours
Nonprofit or charitable event – may act as PIC
Operating expenses – must pay no less than pro-rata share
Production flight test in an aircraft intended for certification
Employment/business – may act as PIC if only incidental to business and does not carry p/p for c/h
