State the recency requirements for a CPL? (4)
- Not act as PIC on an air operation or carrying passengers during the day/night unless within the 90 days immediately preceding the flight, the person has:
- Carried out (as PIC on appropriate aircraft) no less than 3 take-offs and 3 landings during day/during the night; or
- Demonstrated to A or B instructor competency in take-off and landing during the day/during the night in aircraft of the same type; or
- Completed BFR.
State the BFR requirements? (6)
- Holder of a CPL must not exercise the privileges of the license longer than 24 months from the date of issue of the flight test for the pilot license unless:
- Completed a BFR within previous 24 months
- Don’t need to complete BFR if:
- Meets flight crew competency checks prescribed in Part 115 or 119 and 121, 125 and 135.
- Meets Ag currency requirements.
- Holds A, B or C category instructor rating.
State the eligibility requirements for a CPL? (Up to medical certificate) (3)
- 18 years old
- Hold current PPL for appropriate category of aircraft.
- Current class 1 medical certificate.
What are the hour requirements for a CPL with regard to the eligibility requirements? (8)
- Have the following minimum general flight time:
- 200 hours, or 150 for full course of approved training.
- 100 hours PIC
- 30 hours cross-country navigation which includes 20 hours training and the X-country flight test IAW syllabus.
- 10 hours night flight, which is at least 4 hours dual and 5 hours (including 10 take-offs and 10 landings) as PIC.
- 10 hours instrument time which includes 5 hours dual flight time and 5 hours may be conducted in approved synthetic flight trainer.
- 5 hours dual mountain flying including 2 hours low flying and 2 hours basic mountain flying.
- Night flight experience if seeking commercial pilot night flight privileges.

What must a person demonstrate in a flight test to the director with regards to the eligibility requirements of a CPL? (7)
- Successfully demonstrated the following to the director in a flight test:
- Knowledge in the ground examination subjects above;
- Knowledge of privileges and limitations of a CPL;
- Technical and operational knowledge relevant to A/C type used in test;
- Competence to operate A/C within its performance capabilities and limitation IAW AFM in normal, abnormal, and emergency conditions and procedures;
- Competence in RTF and phraseology;
- Control of aircraft at all times that ensures successful outcome of manoeuvre or procedure.
What are the privileges and limitations of a CPL? (5)
- Any privileges of a PPL.
- Act as PIC of aircraft certified for single pilot operations engaged on an operation for hire or reward.
- PIC for multi-engine aircraft for hire or reward that isn’t an ATO
- Act as co-pilot on aircraft on an air operation for hire or reward.
- Must not act PIC or co-pilot of an aircraft at night, unless an appropriately qualified FI has certified in person’s logbook the required night flight training.
What are the currency requirements of a CPL?
Holder of a CPL must comply with the requirements of a medical certificate, recent flight experience and BFR before exercising the privileges of the holder’s CPL.
