Part 5 Flashcards
What is Project Scope Management?
This relates to the processes to ensure that the project includes all of the work required, but only the work required, in order to successfully complete the project.
What are the two types of scope in a project context?
Product scope – the features and function that define a product, service or result.
Project scope – the work performed to provide the same. Project scope is sometimes seen as product scope.
How does an adaptive/agile project life cycle work with project scope?
These are intended to respond to high levels of change and require ongoing stakeholder engagement. The overall scope will be decomposed into the product backlog, with those included determined at the beginning of an iteration/sprint. Three processes (Collect Requirements, Define Scope and Create WBS) are repeated for each iteration. Versus a predictive project, where those happen at the beginning and are only varied through the change control process.
How does Validate Scope and Control Scope work in an adaptive/agile life cycle?
The sponsor and customer reps are engaged continuously to provide feedback on deliverables and product backlog to ensure it meets their current needs. These two processes are repeated for each iteration. For a predictive life cycle, Valdiate Scope only happens with each deliverable, and Control Scope is ongoing.
How do you measure project scope vs product scope?
Completion of the project scope is measured against the project management plan, while completion of the product scope is measured against the product requirements. The term “requirement” is defined as a condition or capability that is required to be present in a product, service, or result to satisfy an agreement or other formally imposed specification
What are some trends and emerging practices in scope management?
Requirements, which takes place in the Project Scope Management processes. This involves a business analysis centric set of skills, including determining problems and identify business needs; identify and recommend viable solutions; eliciting, documenting and managing stakeholder requirements; facilitate the successful implementation.
