Beat around the bush [C1]

Turn a deaf ear
To ignore someone when they complain or ask for something; пропускать мимо ушей

Put in the picture
To tell someone the facts about a situation; ставить в известность
“His lawyer put him in the picture about what had happened since his arrest”
Come round [C2]
To change your opinion of something, often influenced by another person’s opinion; опомниться, передумать, изменить мнение
“He’ll come round to my point of view, given a bit of time”
Put in/make an appearance
To be present somewhere for a short time; явиться, появиться
“I didn’t really want to go to the party, but I thought I’d better put in an appearance”
Take exception to something/someone [C2]
To be offended or made angry by something or someone; возражать, быть против
“Why did you take exception to what he said? He was only joking”
Take notice
To give attention to something; обращать внимание, замечать
“I asked him to drive more slowly, but he didn’t take any notice”
Arduous (adj.)
Difficult, needing a lot of effort and energy; gruelling; трудный, тяжелый

Liability [C1]
- Legal obligation/responsibility for something; ответственность
“He denies any liability for the damage caused” - Something that causes a lot of trouble; обуза, помеха
“After a certain age, a car’s just a liability”
Sole [C1]
Only, single; единственный
“My sole objective is to make the information more widely available”
Set something down
- To write or print something, especially record it in a formal document; изложить, записать
“The rules of the club are set down in the members’ handbook” - Land, stop so that the passengers can get out; приземлиться, приехать
“The cab set us down a long way from our hotel and we had to walk”
Set in
To continue in an unpleasant way; продолжаться (в отрицательном контексте)
“Despair seems to have set in among the team”
Dispatch (v.)
To send something (goods/message) for a particular purpose
“Two loads of cloth were dispatched to the factory on 12 December”
Exuberant (adj.)
(of people and their behaviour) very energetic; бурный, буйный
“Young and exuberant, he symbolizes Italy’s new vitality”
Vitality (n.) [C2]
Energy and strength; жизненность
