Part 3: Nucleus Parts Flashcards
The semi-fluid, gel-like substance within the nucleus, comprising the majority of its volume. It serves as the medium in which the nucleolus, chromatin, and other nuclear components are suspended.
Karyoplasm (Nucleoplasm)
Large protein complexes embedded in the nuclear membrane, creating perforated holes that allow the selective exchange of molecules between the nucleus and the cytoplasm.
Nuclear Pores
A double-layered membrane that encloses the nucleus, separating its contents from the cytoplasm. The nuclear membrane consists of an inner and outer layer, with the outer layer being continuous with the endoplasmic reticulum.
Nuclear Membrane (Nuclear Envelope)
dense structures within the nucleus primarily involved in the synthesis of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and the assembly of ribosomal subunits.
Nucleoli (Nucleolus)
long thread structure that carrying genes
Chromosomes
consisting of DNA and histone proteins that packed into thin, stringy fiber
Chromatin
genetic code
DNA
either of the two strands of a replicated chromosome
Chromatid
basic unit of heredity and consists of specific sequence of DNA/RNA
Gene
