The air that surrounds the Earth
Weather
The atmosphere for a short time
Climate
The atmosphere for a long time
Precipitation
The falling of water back to Earth
Run Off
water flowing downhill towards rivers or oceans
Transpiration
Water from inside plants, dew.
Weathering

Moving hills of sand formed by wind.
Fossils
The remains of an organism that lived long ago
Fossil Fuels
Coal, Oil, and Natural Gas
Natural Resources
Materials in nature that are useful to people
Renewable resource
resource nature produces again and again in a short time
Nonrenewable resource
resource nature cannot produce again and again in a short time.
Sedimentary rock
Rock made from rivers. Sediments cemented over time.
Mineral
solid substance with a crystal shape
Humus
Decomposing plants and animals in the soil
Soil
Material made of rocks, minerals, and humus
Clay
Dense and sticky soil
Alternative Energy
Energy that does not come from fossil fuels
Hydro-electrical energy
Energy from the power of moving water
Biofuel
Energy from something recently alive like firewood

Rotation
Spin. It takes the Earth 24 hours to rotate once.
Revolution
One trip around. It takes the Earth 365 days to do this.
Orbit
The path one object takes around another object in space
Star
An object in space that produces heat and light
Lunar cycle
Different appearances of the moon throughout the month.
Tide
The change in water level caused by the gravity of the moon.
Seasons
Climate patterns caused by Earth’s tilted axis
