Part 3 Anatomy Study guide Flashcards
enzymatic- tertiary
- chemical reactions
cell - recognition- quaternary
- identification of cell type
receptor- tertiary or quaternary
- recognition of specific chemicals
linkage- quaternary
- attach multiple cells. to each other
- gap
- tight
- adhesion
Nucleus
- controls cell functions
- nucleus controls everything but the mitochondria
What is inside the nucleus?
- chromatin
- DNA
What is inside the Nucleous?
- nuclear membrane
What does the ribosomes do?
makes proteins
What does the rough ER do?
makes proteins functional
What does the smooth ER do?
preparation for intracellular transport
What does the Muscles cells store?
calcium
endocrine cells
make steroid hormones
liver cells
detoxify chemicals
mitochondria
energy production
(power house of the cell)
centriole/centrosome
controls intracellular movement
flagella
movement of cell
- sperm
cilia
extracellular movement of fluids
What are the types of two passive transport ?
diffusion, osmosis
Diffusion
movement of solute from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration
osmosis
movement of water from area of higher concentration to area to lower concentration, through a membrane
What is active transport?
energy required
- pump ( moves chemicals from lower to higher cconcentration)
- phagocytosis (eating/drinking)
- secretion
substrate specific
- enzyme-substrate complex
- product
competitive inhibition
chemical substance has a shape that fits the active site of an enzyme and competes with the substrate, effectively inhibiting the enzyme.
non-competitive inhibition
the inhibitor reduces the activity of the enzyme and binds equally well to the enzyme, whether or not it has already bound to the substrate.
