Was slavery new
No Alavert was not new it had been widespread in Ancient Greece
If slavery wasn’t new why suddenly was there a fight to end it
Even though slavery wasn’t new what was new was the scale of the slavery trade
It was a bigger system than it had ever been before

The plantation economy of the new world and Britain’s wealth was thought to depend on slaves taken to the West Indies and the USA to produce sugar,cotton and tobacco for export to Britain
Who was effected by the slavery trade
Many people of African origin but not only them. Many white British people were affected and taken as slaves to North Africa
The entire population of Baltimore a village on the south coast of Ireland was captured and spirited away in 1631.
What political issue highlighted slavery
The American revolution highlighted the issue of individual liberty
Tomas Paines book ‘rights of man’ wrote about new ideas of individual liberty and freedom

The campaign to abolish slavery lasted from 1783 to 1833
It achieved its aim in 1833
