Part 2: Lead Placement, Common Terminology, Morphology, and Artifact Flashcards
Lead Placement, Common Terminology, Morphology, and Artifact
What is a 6 Lead EKG?
Consists of 4 lead places on the abdomen that measure electricity between them to create an EKG. more commonly Used for a live feed EKG.
What is a 12 Lead EKG?
Consists of 10 leads placed on the abdomen that measure electricity between them to create an EKG.
What are Electrodes?
Adhesive patches are applied to the skin that creates points of contact for the lead wires.
What are Lead Wires?
The wires that come from the tele box act as a closed circuit to create an EKG.
What is an Isoelectric EKG?
The baseline on an EKG where there is no electrical activity.
What is a Vertical EKG?
The Movement of the waveform represents voltage.
What is a Horizontal EKG?
Movement of the waveform that represents time.
What is Morphology
A standard Sinus Rhythm with each wave representing a different action of the heart.
Also simply referred to as Wave Forms
What is a P Wave?
Atrial Depolarization
What is a QRS?
Ventricular Depolarization
What is a TWave?
Ventricular Repolarization
What is a R-R?
Time between heartbeats
Also known as Rate Rhythms
What is an Artifact?
An umbrella term for things on an EKG that are not cardiac signals.
What are the causes of an artifact?
- Muscle tremors
- Patient movement
- Loose electrodes
- Electronic devices
- Laptop
- Cellphone
- Heated Blankets
