Part 1: EKG and Calculation Methods Flashcards
EKG and Calculation Methods
What is an EKG Paper?
Made up of a grid that is normally sized at 25mm per second.
What are the two directions of the EKG and what do they indicate?
Vertical (Voltage) and Horizontal (Time)
What can large boxes, which are .20 seconds, be broken up into?
5 smaller boxes, which are .04 seconds.
What are calipers?
Used to measure the distance between two objects.
If 6 Seconds = 30 Large Boxes, then what is 1 box for each second?
5 boxes per second
What are the pros and cons of calipers?
Pros: It can be used on any grid of paper.
Cons: It can be less usable over time.
What is an EKG Ruler?
Used to calculate heart rates.
What are the pros and cons of an EKG Ruler?
Pros: Quick and efficient
Cons: Only works on paper calibrated to 25mm.
What is the most reliable method of rate calculation?
The 6-Second Method
How do you do the 6-Second Method?
Count the number of QRSs in a sÌx second strip and multiply by 10 for the rate.
What is the Large Box Method?
An estimation of the number of large boxes between two QRSS and calculate the rate based on this chart.
In the Large Box method, what is 1 Large Boxes?
300 BPM
In the Large Box method, what are 2 Large Boxes?
150 BPM
In the Large Box method, what are 3 Large Boxes?
100 BPM
In the Large Box method, what are 4 Large Boxes?
75 BPM
