Part 2 Flashcards
Hepatic encephalopathy
Decline in brain function when liver is no longer able to properly remove toxins from blood. Ammonia builds up blood stream.
Ammonia and hepatic encephalopathy
Ammonia produced from breakdown of proteins in gut, normally detox by liver into urea then excreted
Acute pancreatitis and risk factors
Inflammation and oedema, systemic inflammatory response system.
Risk factors: gall stones, alcohol, hypertriglycerides, infections.
Serum markers pancreatitis
Amylase > 3 times more than limit
Lipase > typically within 4-8 hours
Diverticulitis cause
Low fibre diet
Events following TBI
tissue damage, hypoxia/ death of neurons, swelling/ ICP
Increased ICP and effects inside the brain (3)
Vasogenic fluid causes oedema, restricts blood flow, gradient disappears
