part 11 Flashcards
what are the methods used for vestibular assessmenet
- bedside screening for appropriate referral (clinical exam)
- advanced/vestibular testing at the site of lesion (variable)
The goal of screening for appropriate referral (bedside)
determine probable site of lesion (peripheral or central)
- done once neurological emergency (stroke) is considered unlikely
peripheral lesions in neurology are
lesions of cranial nerve, cranial nerve nuclei and neuromuscular junctions
central lesions are
brainstem, cerebrum or cerebellum
screening for cerebellar function
- sitting (upper and lower body)
- standing
upper body sitting tests
finger to finger point
index to nose
squeeze hands
dysdiadochokinesis (flipcake)
rebound
lower body sitting test
knee to hip
toe tap
standing test
romberg
fukudo
3m walk
star walk
tandem gait
tandem gait
toe to heel
-police walk in straight line
When you lean to the left is that the healthy or compensated side
compensated
- if vestibular deficit in L, lean L
star walking positive test
when you walk in starlike formation
what is considered abnormal for fukudo
if 20 steps of high knees greater than 30 degree
50 steps greater than 45 abnormal
