What was the Weimar Republic and the Weimar constitution?
Weimar Republic we’re the newly elected politicians
Constitution was a formal set of rules for how Germany would be governed
What was the role of the president, the chancellor and the reichstag?
President controlled armed forces
Chancellor responsible for day to day running
Reichstag discussed and introduced laws
Who was the first chancellor and then president of the Weimar Republic?
Friedrich ebert
Who were the spartacists and what was the uprising in January 1919?
People who believe in communism. In January 1919 they tried to take over Berlin by roaming the streets and firing guns
What was kapp putsch and how was the rebellion put down?
A rebellion from the right wing who took over Germany for 100 hours
What was the Munich Putsch and the consequences for hitler?
When hitler took over bavaria and batched to Berlin. Armed police retook control and hitler was handed 5 year sentence.
Who was Gustav Stressemann and what is he known for?
Germanys chancellor in 1923 and foreign minister in 1924
How did he deal with the hyperinflation crisis?
Introducing a new currency - rentenmark
How did he deal with the occupation of the Ruhr?
Lending money from USA and setting up a repayment schedule
How did the Dawes plan 1924 help the issue of reparations?
It helped them restart their reparation payments
How did the Young plan 1929 help the issue of reparations?
It helped negotiate the reparations down and gave them longer to pay it
How did Stressemann improve Germanys relationships with other countries?
Joining the League of Nations and signing the locrano pact.
What was the Locrano pact 1925?
A promise between Britain France and Belgium Italy and Germany to not invade each other
What was the League of Nations and when was Germany allowed to join?
A peacekeeping organisation
Germany joined in 1926
What was the Kellogg Briand pact 1928?
Agreement to never go to war
