What are the 3 factors that cause diaper dermatitis?

Describe diaper dermatitis?
rash is erythematous, papular, and has areas of scaling
skin appears edematous and inflamed causing the infant to be irritable
-secondary bacterial and yeast infections are common
How often should diapers be changed for newborns and older children?
- newborns: hourly
- older children: q2-3 hours
What should be used to wash diaper dermatitis and what can be put on it topically?
- warm water and mild soap
- barrier cream: zinc oxide, titanium oxide
- corn starch
Common form of diaper dermatitis?
candida albicans
Inflammations of the skin due to overgrowth of the organism on the skin and release of toxins
candidiasis albicans
What is a classical clinical sign of candidiasis albicans?
- presence of satelite lesions (papules) on the periphery of the inflammation
- also can have vesicles and pustules and be very pruritic
What is the medication for candidiasis albicans?
Nystatin and ketoconazole
