Part 1 Flashcards
What type of tissues are there
Epithelial
Connective
Nervous
Muscle
What is the skeletal system function
Protection
Movement
Mineral storage
Production of blood
Osteoblasts
Responsible for bone formation and breaking it down to be reformed
Bone contains what? And heals better than what?
Contains blood vessels and heals better than cartilage, which has no blood supply and need nutrients to diffuse in.
Axial skeleton are composed of what ?
Skull, vertebral column, rib cage
Appendicular skeleton
Bones associated with appendages
When muscles move in different directions, how is it achieved?
Action of pairs of antagonistic or opposing muscles contract or relax. Requires calcium
Muscles are made of what
Bundles of muscle fibers
Muscle fibers are made of what?
Made of myofibrils
Myofibrils are composed of what?
Of two proteins: actin and myosin
Two types of muscles
Smooth and striated
Striated muscles includes
Skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle
Smooth muscles lines what
Blood vessels and gi tracts
Sensory functions
Sending and processing sensory info (hearing, seeing, touch)0
Acetylcholine
A neurotransmitter, binds to acetylcholine receptor on receiving cell
Action potential, what happens to cell?
Changes in ionic/charge state
- cell changes from resting of -70 millivolts to becoming positively charged.
- ionic conditions also reverse with NA going in and K going out. Neuron then returns to its normal state of high k and low NA.
Meninges
Covering cns. Surrounds the brain and the spinal cord
Autonomic nervous system
Involuntary functions, involves skeletal muscle
Parasympathetic system
Slows things down
Reflexes process
Involve sensory formation which isnt processed by the brain and can have a faster response. It occurs in the region of the spinal cord
Cerebrum
Function are processing of sensory info and memory
Cerebellum
Receives info from muscles and sensory receptors, controls balance and coordinated movement.
Light goes through
Cornea — lens— iris.
Brain stem
Controls many autonomic function
Iris controls?
Amount of light passing through the lens
