Parotid Bed and Temporal Region Flashcards
parotid duct location
transversely passes over masseter then pierces buccinator
-opens into oral vestibule
parotid capsule significance
viral inflamm of salivary glands with strong facia causes intense pain aka the mumps
-investing layer of deep cervical fasica around parotid gland
nerve supply to gland
- parasymp from glossopharyngeal via lesser petrosal N then rides with auriculotemporal from V3 to reach parotid
- symp from superior cervical ganglion
- sensory from great auricular from cervical plexus and auriculotemporal N
structures in the gland
- lymph nodes
- great auricular N
- facial N + branches
- retromandibular V
- external carotid A
- auriculotemporal N
facial N branches
before gland: post auricular, N to stylohyoid, post belly digastric
in gland: temporal, zygomatic, buccal, mandibular, cervical
retromandibular V
deep to facial N
from union of superficial temp and maxillary V
-posterior division + post auricular = external jug V
-anterior divison + facial V = internal jug
external carotid A branches
- posterior auricular to deep structures post auricle
- superficial temporal to temporal region superficial to temporalis
- maxillary dives deep to neck of mandible to infratemporal fossa
auriculotemporal N V3
cutaneous inn to skin of auricle, temporal region, anterior to auricle
temporalis M
inn: V3
og @ floor of temporal fossa > in @ coronoid process of mandible
elevates and retracts mandible bilateral
side to side motion if unilateral
masseter M
inn: V3
og @ zygomatic arch > in @ angle and lateral surface of ramus mandible
elevates mandible, protrusion bilateral
side to side motion unilateral
