A

They are elected into government
Bee it was brought by legislation
People more likely to follow law is made by elected people

However does parliament represent society?

Full reform of whole areas

A

As they can control the whole area of law whereas judges only control one principle
Passed Fraud act 2006 after lots of differnt principles became confusing
Makes law much easier to follow

Although they don’t have enough time to reform properly

Lack of time

A

Less urgent legislation is not is not passed for years
Law commission in 1993 recommended changes to the offences against the persons act and hasn’t been changed in over 25 years
Changes in society and not kept up with like raping your wife in RvR

However they may prioritise urgent ones like The Danger Dogs Act

Parliament has too much control

A

The government are able to control parliaments timetable and will therefore place priority on issues that they were voted in for and ignore private member bills
Private bills are often moral issues important to society such as the Abortian Act 1967

However it is important that parliament has a strict timetable to introduce as many legislation as possible
