- 18-75 years old
- Resident in UK at least 5 years
- On the electoral register
What disqualify for being on the jury under what act
The Juries Act 1974
Permanent
Life imprisonments
5 years or more in prison
Temporary 10 years
Have been sentenced in the last 10 years
On bail
What makes you ineligible from being on a jury
A resident of a hospital or smaller institution
Regally attends treatment by a medical practitioner
Suffering from a mental illness of psychiatric disorder in the Mental Health Act 1983
What excusal (permanent)
S9 Juries Act 1974
People in essential occupations such as doctors and pharmacists or armed forces
Blind or deaf
Can not understand English
Long term illness
What can you have defferal
Religious holidays Important exams Business Recently had a child Pre booked holiday
Jury selection
Names selected from the electoral register
Summons are sent to those people whose names are selected
Those summoned must notify the court if the cannot do jury service
If summoned you are expected to attend for a minimum of 2 weeks
