Parkinson's Flashcards
Autonomic syfunction
Postural hypotension
Difference with drug induced parkinsonism
motor symptoms are generally rapid onset and bilateral
rigidity and rest tremor are uncommon
Imaging
SPECT
If no motor symptoms, what drug
MAO-B or dopamine agonists (fewer motor complications)
Complications of dopamine agonists
Visual hallucinations, impulse disorders
If levodopa insufficient
Add MAO-B, dopamine agonist or COMT
Complication management
Sleepiness - modafinil
orthostatic hypotension - midodrine
Drooling - glycopyrronium bromide
Common SEs of levodopa
palpitations
postural hypotension
psychosis
If hospitalised and acutely stopped levodopa
dopamine agonist patch
Examples of dopamine agonists
bromocriptine, ropinirole, cabergoline, apomorphine
If drug-induced parkinsonism
procyclidine
