Parker SC (Perineum/ some Pelvis) Flashcards
What separates the pelvis and perineum?
Muscular pelvic diaphragm
- Composed of Levator ani and cocygeus
What are the boundaries of the perineum?
Anterior: Pubic Symphysis Anterolateral: Ischiopubic Ramus Lateral: Ischial Tuberosity Posterolateral: Sacrotuberous ligaments Posterior: Coccyx Roof: Pelivic diaphragm Inferior: Continuations of scarpas
What is the dividing line between the 2 ∆’s?
A line between the two ischial tuberosities
What are the ischioanal fossae?
wedge shaped spaces on either side of the anal canal
*found inside of anal ∆
What are the contents of the ischioanal fossa?
- Pudendal Canal (w/ internal pudenal a., pudendal n.)
- made by specialization of obturator internus fascia
- inferior rectal nn. and vessels transverse the fossae
T or F: the rectum is found in the anal ∆
True, the part of the rectum distal to the pelvic diaphragm is in the anal ∆
T or F: the ischioanal fossae extend anteriorly into the UG ∆ superior to the UG diaphragm
True
What muscles are located into the anal ∆?
- innervation?
- Only 1 muscle: external anal sphincter
- Innervation: inferior rectal n. (somatic)
What two membranes bound the superficial space?
- Superior - Perineal membrane
- Inferior - Colle’s fascia
What are the neurovascular structures of the perineum?
- Internal Pudendal a.
- pudendal n.
Describe the path of the pudendal a. as it enters the anal ∆.
- Exit via greater sciatic foramen
- Pass over the sacrospinous ligament
- Enter the lesser sciatic foramen
- Enter perineum
- Pudendal Canal on obturator internus in ischioanal fossa of anal ∆
- Target
What are the contents of the anal ∆?
- Ischioanal fossa
- pudendal canal (with pudenal n. and internal pudendal a.)
- Rectal vessels transverse the ischioanal fossa - Anal canal and anus
- Part of rectum distal to pelvic diaphragm
- External anal sphincter
What are the 3 muscles of the superficial Perineal space?
Ischiocavernosus
Bulbospongiosus
Superficial transverse perineus
What is the terminal branch of the perineal n.?
Posterior Scrotal/Labial n.
T or F: the external genitalia and its roots are part of the deep/superior perineal space
False, they are in the superficial space
What are the roots of the penis/vagina?
- R and L crura
- Bulb or Penis/Vestibule (females)
What part of the urethra is located in the superficial perineal space in males?
- Spongy Urethra in males
* Note females don’t have different parts to their urethra
What nerve enters anteriorly into the superficial perineal space?
- What is this nerve a branch of?
- anterior Scrotal/Labial n.
- Branch of Ilioinguinal
What is the common innervation of all muscle in the superficial perineal space?
- Where does this nerve enter?
- Perineal n.
- Enters POSTERIOLY from anal ∆
What is contained in the superficial perineal space?
- External genitalia and its roots
- R and L crus, bulb of the penis/vestibule - 3 Muscles
- Ischiocavernosus, bulbospongiosus, SUPERFICIAL transverse perineus - Perineal a. and n.
- Perineal Body
- SPONGY urethra in males, urethra in females
- GREATER vestibular glands (aka bartholin’s) (FEMALES)
What two muscles lie in the deep perineal membrane?
- External Sphincter Urethrae
- Deep Transversus Perineus
T or F: the external urethral sphincter is under somatic control.
True
What nerve PIERCES the posterior border of the urogenital diaphragm?
- Dorsal n. of the Penis/Clitoris
What arteries are found in the deep perineal space?
- Artery to the bulb
- Deep artery of the penis/clitoris
- Dorsal a. of the penis/clitori
- Artery to Urethra
