What are the different parenting styles?
Authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, uninvolved
What type of parent is an authoritative parent?
They are normally sensitive and responsive however demanding
What type of parent is an authoritarian parent?
They’re normally stern yet detached and demanding

They’re normally sensitive and responsive however they don’t enforce limits

They are normally stern yet detached and don’t enforce limits
What does being a authoritative mean?
-They have high demands but are responsive to a child’s emotional needs while still having high standards
- The children are more Independent, self reliant and well behaved
- Less likely to engage in antisocial behaviour, have depression or anxiety
What does being a authoritarian parent mean?
- they have high demands yet low responsiveness
- they have high expectations but give very little in the way of feedback and nurturance
What does being a permissive parent mean?
- Low demands and high responsiveness they’re very loving and provide a few guidelines and rules
- they don’t expect mature behaviour, more of a friend then parent
- child tends to struggle with self control
What does being a uninvolved parent mean?
- few to no demands of their children
- often dismissive / neglectful to child
- only provide basic needs (food, shelter)
- child might have to provide for themselves
- child fear becoming dependent on other people
- emotionally withdrawn
- anxiety, fear and stress due to lack of family support
- increased risk of substance abuse
