subcut injections ; tissue, absorption, meds, needle and volume
- injection between the epidermis and muscle in the subcut tissue.
- due to poor blood in tissue, absorption is slow.
- insulin, anticoagulants, some immunisations.
- max volume 1ml
- needle 25g or smaller
Istramuscular injections: tissue, absorption, meds, needle and volume
- injected in muscle
- large blood flow = rapid absorption.
- 23g needle can deviler 4ml
- 1-2 ml for children
- used for immunisations, unconsciousness, git disturbance, uncooperative
IM considerations
- any inflamed, oedematous or infection present?
- patient have impaired coagulation?
