- lateral elbows
- ventral thorax
- ventral abdomen
- caudal hocks
primarily erythema, papules, and scales
Is scabies pruritic?
YES very much so
What percent of skin scrapings will be positive for scabies?
20-50%
they are very difficult to find
When scraping for scabies, is it superficial or deep?
superficial
male mites live on surface; females lay ova in epidermis
Is scabies contagious?
YES!!!
to dogs and people; rarely seen in cats
How to treat scabies?
Isoxazolines
Bravecto/Nexgard/Simparica
treat environment and other animals too
can scabies be cured?
YES
one of the few derm diseases that can be cured lol
Is it easy to find demodex on a skin scrape?
yes
they are present in normal fauna but are rare, so if you find one treat the animal as positive

When scraping for demodex, is it superficial or deep?

no, we are only controlling
relapse is common especially in intact females
