The term paraphrenia describes a late onset schizophrenic type presentation that is functional (not due to underlying organic illness).
The following facts about paraphrenia come up in the exams.
It is much more common in women than men
It is associated with hearing and visual impairment
Paraphrenic patients are less likely to be married
Paraphrenia patients are less likely to have children
It is associated with imaging changes consistent with CVAs
It is associated with social isolation
