not using appropriate grammar, speech may be limited to just a few words,
saying 2-3 words at a time

emotional lability
trigger of emotional feelings
cry more than they should
become emotional to a point where they usually cry
circumlocution
word retrieval difficulties, try to explain something but cannot get to the point, talking in circles
“it’s red and grows on trees” for “cherry”
neologism/neologistic jargon
making up words that have no meaning, not real words
“tember” for “happy”; “bannertime” for “soccer”
nonword, word, or phrase fillers
“I lost my, um… uh… wallet”
“I lost my… you know… wallet”
part-word, or phrase repetitions
“She went to the… the… the… islands”
silent pauses
“My… friend gave it to me”
false starts
“He had… the girl had the wrong number”
abandoned utterances
