What dose can be fatal in adults?
12g or 150mg per kg
What are initial clinical manifestations?
None or vomiting +/- RUQ pain
What are later clinical manifestations?
Jaundice, encephalopathy, +/- AKI
What investigations would you do?
Blood paracetamol at 4h post ingestion, INR, U&E, LFT, ABG
What can you give for GI decontamination?
Activated charcoal
What drug do you give if the patient is above the treatment line?
N-Acetylcysteine
What is a common side effect of acetylcysteine?
Rash
How do you monitor patients?
INR, U&E, LFT
What is a potential complication?
Liver failure
What criteria is used to diagnose paracetamol-induced liver failure?

What are the criteria for paracetamol-induced liver failure?
Arterial pH <7.3 24h after ingestion or PT >100s + creatinine >300 + grade III/IV encephalopathy
What drug is prescribed in alcohol withdrawal?
Chlordiazepoxide
What drug is prescribed to reverse benzodiazepine overdose?
Flumezanil
