What is a parable?
A simple story which conveys a deeper meaning that can apply to your life
Why did Jesus teach using parables?
They are simple to remember, spread fast and help to explain mysteries
What happens in the Parable of the Good Samaritan
The story of the Good Samaritan, as told by Jesus in one of the gospels of the New Testament. A traveller is beaten up and robbed, and left for dead along the road. A priest comes by, but deliberately avoids the man. A levite also comes by but he too avoids the injured. Finally, a Samaritan comes by, and he helps the injured man, in an act of mercy and compassion.
What is the moral of the Good Samaritan?
We should always treat everyone no matter what with respect and love
How could you apply the Good Samaritan to your own life?
Pray to your enemies
Help people in need of assistance
What happens in the Prodigal Son?
A man divided his money with his two sons, the youngest left and wasted it all and had to work on farm. He went back to his father and he threw him a party, although the oldest son was mad.
What is the moral of the Prodigal Son?
We can all be forgiven by God no matter what
What do the characters in the Prodigal Son represent?
Father: God
Younger son: us and our sins
Older son: our envy
What happened to the seed on the path?
The birds ate it up. This represents when anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart.
What happens to the seed that fell on rocky ground?
It sprang up quickly but was scorched by the sun because the soil was shallow and the plant had no root. This means that someone understands the message and treats it with joy but not for long. When evil comes, their joy is quickly taken away from them.
What happens to the seed that fell among the thorns?
It choked the other plants. This represents when someone hears the word but his worries and wealth makes the word not intepret properly.
What happened to the seed that fell on good soil?
It produced crops. This is someone who fully understands the word of God without any evil taking over.
