How are papers and boards made ?
Papers and boards are formed from wood pulp, which comes from trees. This squishy wood pulp is rolled out into thin sheets in paper mill factories to form the papers and boards that we use
What are papers and boards measured in ?
Papers and boards are measured in grams per square metre ( gsm )
Whats considered paper ?
Anything less than 200gsm is considered a type of paper
Whats considered a board ?
Boards ( card or cardboard ) are always greater than 200gsm
What are the different stock forms of paper ?
A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6

it is thin, lightweight and used for initial ideas - used for sketch pads
What is Cartridge paper ?
It is printing paper
It is good for sketching and using coloured pencils you can render it
It is also known as “posh paper”
What is tracing paper ?
It is very thin and is used for copying images
What is bleed proof paper ?
used when using felt tips as it has a protective layer so no bleeding
It is used for marker rendering - using felt tips to make your idea stand out - like in final sketches
What is treated paper ?
treated paper absorbs ink - makes nice colours
It is used for photographic printing
What is watercolour paper ?
It has a good surface texture for painting

It is card that is used for packaging
It is cheap, has strength with little weight as it is made of a fluted inner core - which make sit strong

It is the card used for greeting cards and high quality packaging
