Paper and Gas Chromotography Flashcards
1
Q
Why do we use paper chromotography?
A
It is used to identify substances in a mixture e.g. dyes in food colouring.
2
Q
What do you do in paper chromotography?
A
Draw line the original substance on in pencil as it is non soluble. Solvent goes up the filter paper and and the dye seperates leaving the marks. 4 marks means at least 4 dyes.
3
Q
Draw a diagram to show the process of gas chromotography
A

4
Q
Why do we use carrier gas for gas chromotography?
A
Because carrier gas (often a noble gas) carries substances through smaller molecules which makes the process quicker.
5
Q
Why is it better to use machines for chemical analysis?
A
- Quick
- Accurate
- Can detect small amounts
