What are the properties of paper and board?

A

Newsprint- cheap, lightweight, uncoated
Layout paper- thin and slightly translucent
Tracing paper- transparent
Sugar paper- cheap, uncoated, variety of colours
Laser photo paper- special high gloss or matt coating with a quick drying surface for the ink
Board- a more rigid surface that can be easily printed onto.
Mount board- thick coloured, rigid board
Corrugated card- strong and lightweight
Foam boards- composite board consisting of two outer layers of HQ card and a central layer of foam
Spiral wound tubing- high strength and 3D printable surface

Thermoplastics

A

Bio plastic- biodegradable, based on plants, clear or coloured. Used in all sorts of food packaging.
Cellulose acetate- partially biodegradable, based on plants but with added chemicals. Clear, NOT tough. Used in POS stands, available as rods, tubes as well as sheets.
Polyethylene terephthalate- tough, very good at keeping fizz in fizzy drinks.
Expanded polystyrene Styrofoam- very light, impact absorbing. Used in protective packaging and block modelling.
PVC- tough and resists scratching.
Used in blister packs and games pieces.
Polypropylene- It is flexible and is used with crisp packets.
