Paper 4 Flashcards
Measuring Frequency
STROBOSCOPE
1) Starting with the HIGHEST frequency, the frequency of the stroboscope is gradually reduced until the vibrating object appears STATIONARY.
2) This means that the frequency of stroboscope is equal to the frequency of the vibration of object
Angle
Spectroscope
Place the diffraction grating of a spectroscope. Use the telescope to locate the position of the maxima, and use the scale of the spectroscope to find angle of deviation of the beam
Fluid Flow Rate
Use a flow rate meter to determine the rate of flow of gas/liquid
MULTIPLY the flow rate density of the liquid to convert to mass flow rate
Measure potential difference
Using CRO
Connect a CRO in parallel to ____-
Using the grid on the screen, measure the maximum distance occupied by a complete wave form
Multiply this distance by scale indicated on y scale to obtain a peak to peak voltage
Measuring Magnetic field strength
Hall Probe
Positioned so that the field lines of magnetic field are right angle to the plane
Should be first calibrated using a magnetic field of unknown strength
Magnetic field strength proportional to the deflection in the meter
Measuring velocity/time using a photogate
object is projected so that is passes through two photo gates
Velocity measured is an average velocity
Measuring Acceleration
From a table of velocity vs time, a velocity time graph can be plotted. Gradient at various times can be used to calculate the acceleration
Measuring temperature with data logger
place temperature sensor in the___
Connect the sensor to a data logger
Using the computer to extract a graph of temperature against time from information stored in data logger.
Measuring Fluid pressure
1)Manometer
measure height difference between levels of mercury in the arms of U tube
2) Pressure gauge
