Effect of increased damping on features of Resonance curve

A

Effect of increased damping on features of Resonance curve

1) Feature: Curve shifted lower with increased damping.

(amplitude is smaller at all frequencies with damping)

2) Feature: Flatter peak.

Amplitude increases to maximum (i.e.resonance occurs) less drastically as damping increases

3) Feature: Peak skewed to the left.

As damping is increased, resonance occurs at resonant frequencies lower than the natural
frequency f
Therefore, the peak shifts to the left as damping gets larger. From the graph,
It is only with no damping that resonance will occur when driving frequency f = f
