Catholicism for aristocrats.

The right of succession that goes to the first born child.

A group of people with a common political purpose.

A royal seal that replaced the kings signature.
What is Anti-clericalism?
Opposition to the Pope.
What was a Puritan
Protestants that wanted to rid the church of more Catholic practices.
What was Praemunire?
An offence of not accepting the Royal Supremacy [seeing Pope as higher power].
What was the royal prerogative?
Powers held by the monarch that could be used without the consent of Parliament.
What was Enclosure?
Enclosing common land so that commoners couldn’t use it for grazing their animals etc.

A smaller council used to advise the King.

Regular church meetings that analysed biblical texts favoured by Puritan clergy.

That the state is superior to the church in ecclesiastical matters.

A new form of tax from 1541.
What was the Debasement of the Coinage?
Lowering the value of coins by melting them down and mixing with base metals.

Excluding someone from participation in the sacraments and services of the church.

A legal procedure that declares marraige invalid from the beginning.

The exclusive possession or control of supply of goods.
What is the definition of transubstantiation?
The changing of one substance into another.
What was the definition of yeomen?
Someone who owns land or the middle rank of servants in a royal/ noble household.
What is a chantry?
Religious institution endowed with land, goods and money.
What is a privateer?
A person of ship that is allowed to attack/ steal ships at sea.
What is presbytarianism
A reformed protestant belief that emphasises the sovereignity of God, scriptures and grace.
What is patronage?
The supports given by a patron.
