What are the steps of taking pap smear?
A
- Explain the procedure to patient
- Consent
- Check trolley
- Ask patient to empty the bladder
- Patient lies supine
- Legs abducted and flexed
- Sterilize the area and drape the patient
- Lubricate the cusco/sims speculum
- Take the sample from transitional zone by using Ayre’s spatula and rotate it clockwise
- Remove the gloves
- If bleeding or pain → give antibiotics and painkillers
